For Lison de Caunes, straw marquetry is a childhood memory. She became familiar with this material very early on in the workshop of her grandfather and master of Art Deco, the decorator André Groult. She later returned to the workshop – after studying bookbinding – and revolutionised this technique by using the tools of a bookbinder, such as the bone folder, which has never left her side since.
After restoring the most beautiful masterpieces in straw marquetry, she now devotes herself to the creation of furniture, objects and wall coverings.
Whether in her own name (Lison de Caunes Créations) or in collaboration with renowned interior architects and designers (Ateliers Lison de Caunes), including Peter Marino, Jacques Grange, Maria Pergay, Hubert le Gall, Vincent Darré and Mathieu Lehanneur, to name but a few.
Master of Art since 1996, member of the Grands Ateliers de France and EPV (Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant), Lison de Caunes was then promoted to Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2010.
Today, Lison de Caunes works on her own designs, marketed under the name Lison de Caunes Créations and available directly from the workshop. Coffee tables, screens and decorative objects (boxes, trays and storage containers), she applies straw marquetry to everyday objects, in a singular and timeless style.
